Americans Growing More Pro-Life

New poll indicates two-thirds of Americans believe abortion ends a human life.

Americans are increasingly pro-life, according to a recent Zogby poll that found nearly 70 percent oppose tax dollars being used for abortions and favor parental- notification laws.

The numbers are encouraging to pro-life groups seeking to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Two-thirds of Americans believe abortion ends a human life, and half are convinced life begins at conception. Gary Bauer, president of American Values, said the numbers reflect what pro-life groups have been saying for years.

"The country is much more pro-life than is the law of the land," he told Family News in Focus. "I don't think there is any reason for any politician to feel hesitant or worried about taking a pro- life position in public views or stances."

Jim Sedlak, executive director of the American Life League's STOPP International, agreed.

"I have done several debates and interviews over the last several months and even the other side is now admitting that Roe v. Wade is going to be defeated," he explained. "They are just putting their plans in place for what will happen when it gets defeated."

Sedlak added that it's easy to understand the poll numbers.

"Let's not forget that abortion was legalized 33 years ago, so it's the survivors of abortion who are more and more taking these polls, so they are pro-life," he said. "They understand they are the survivors of abortion."

Pollster John Zogby concluded from his survey that Democrats will have trouble gaining a political advantage by using the emotionally charged issue of abortion.
