On Friday, January 22nd, 2009, a group from the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier participated in the 2010 March for Life in Washington DC. This event is held every year on the anniversary of the infamous 1973 Row vs. Wade Decision, legalizing abortion.
The day started with Mass at CCSFX at 9:30 AM and a Continental breakfast. After Mass and breakfast, we boarded the bus for the trip to Washington DC. An EWTN simulcast of the pre-March For Life Rally was made available to those who stayed in the comfort our Buses.
The March began at the end of a Rally on the Mall in which a number of pro-life speakers addressed the congress and the new administration on behalf of the unborn and those life and dignity are threatened under current government policy. Once the Rally completed the participants marched from the Mall to the steps of the Supreme Court. The March lasted about 45 minutes. A number of participants lingered at the Court, where a rock band played pro-life songs, Father Pavone made a speech and other activities were held. Parishes in the area helped with logistics and provided refreshments to the marcher on their way back to their buses. We return to the Church around 5:30PM.
