Archbishop O'Brien - How We Got Here

Archbishop O'Brien discusses how we got into the Culture of Death

The late great Cardinal Avery Dulles, S.J., once deplored what he cited as the penchant of some contemporary Catholics for “excessive and indiscreet compromise.” Without denying the value of open and honest debate, we would do well to beware of the role that such “compromise” played in raising the political tide that washed in our society’s sad acceptance of unrestricted abortion today. Any attempt to compromise Church teaching on abortion in the name of “open mindedness” is deplorable.

In a first-rate address to more than a hundred bishops gathered last February for a workshop conducted by the National Catholic Bioethics Center, Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, referred to a Wall Street Journal opinion piece of January 7 of this year.

Titled “How Support for Abortion Became Kennedy Dogma,” the article goes a long way in explaining how so many Catholic politicians, once pro-life, arrived at a deplorable compromise, abandoned their pro-life convictions, and even became, in too many instances, ardent “pro-choice” proponents.

Gospel of Life Annual Retreat
a Great Success

The Gospel of Life Annual Retreat was held at the Catholic Community of St. Francis Xavier, Hunt Valley Maryland, May 16, 2009 from 8 am to 3 pm.

The Spiritual Director and Mass Celebrant will be Fr. Abel Agbulu, a dear friend and priest, from Nigeria. He is currently studying at St. Mary's Seminary and serving at Saint Cecilia's in Baltimore.

The retreat started with morning mass, followed by a session in which Fr. Abel shared with us how to grow in faith and strength as our culture attempts to relegate the Church to the dark ages.

In addition to Mass the day included time for discussing our personal response to what Father Abel shared and how our Gospel of Life Group can best serve the community at St Francis Xavier.

The notes for this retreat are amazing. Click here for our retreat page.

From Catholic Insight: How We Got To The Culture Of Death: The Frankfurt School

The Frankfurt School: Conspiracy to Corrupt

By Timothy Matthews
Issue: March 2009

"Most of Satan’s work in the world he takes care to keep hidden. But two small shafts of light have been thrown onto his work for me just recently. The first, a short article in the Association of Catholic Women’s ACW Review; the second, a remark (which at first surprised me) from a priest in Russia who claimed that we now, in the West, live in a Communist society. These shafts of light help, especially, to explain the onslaught of officialdom which in many countries worldwide has so successfully been removing the rights of parents to be the primary educators and protectors of their children.

The ACW Review examined the corrosive work of the ‘Frankfurt School’ - a group of German-American scholars who developed highly provocative and original perspectives on contemporary society and culture, drawing on Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, and Weber. Not that their idea of a ‘cultural revolution’ was particularly new. ‘Until now’, wrote Joseph, Comte de Maistre (1753-1821) who for fifteen years was a Freemason, ‘nations were killed by conquest, that is by invasion: But here an important question arises; can a nation not die on its own soil, without resettlement or invasion, by allowing the flies of decomposition to corrupt to the very core those original and constituent principles which make it what it is.'"

Connecticut Law Would Reorganize Catholic Churches in State, Removing Clergy From Any Control

A new law has been proposed in Connecticut that has bee called "irrational, unlawful, and bigoted". It would incorporate each Catholic Parish in Connecticut as a separate corporation - removing them from control by their pastors or the Bishop. It further allows for state intervention on behalf of anyone who wishes to allege financial impropriety, whether their money was involved or not.

Bishop Robert J. Hermann Speaks to Catholics on Pro-Life Issues

Here is a quote from the Article:

We have to live our lives in such a way that we will be unafraid to witness to what we believe and live.

I may courageously say that I am willing to die to end abortion, but am I equally willing to say that I am ready to let my ego get ruffled daily for the same cause? Yet … that is where I need to arrive if I am to be a credible witness.

What a glorious opportunity we all have to make a difference in the pro-life cause. Until we are willing to be politically incorrect in order to be biblically correct, we will never convince anyone that our religion is worth living.

At March, Black Pastor Warns Obama not to Preside over “Genocide” of American Blacks

WASHINGTON, DC, January 23, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The most well received speech at the March for Life this year was that of an African American pastor from Frederick Maryland.
